Woodlands over Morecambe Bay

Over the last two to three years I’ve explored woodlands that sit just above Morecambe Bay. Eggerslack Woods and Brown Robin Nature Reserve, both above and close to the seaside town of Grange-over-Sands, are beautiful spaces to wander, listen and look. And both lead to spectacular views of Morecambe Bay.

In late winter to spring, the woodland floor bursts to life with wildflowers of snowdrop, wood anemone, bluebell and wild garlic (ramsons). As the seasons warm, the woods become lively places for wildlife - nuthatches, treecreepers, deer - all against a rich tapestry of textured tree trunks, branches, bark, leaves, moss, lichen and ferns.

Butterflies and moths are also a feature of the woodland and they add an ethereal quality to walks, silently winging their way between ferns and trees and then disappearing as they land and camouflage.
